Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche
Spiritual Guide and Founder
Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is a contemporary Buddhist meditation master who holds a complete lineage of Buddha’s teachings that he received through an unbroken chain of realised masters dating back to Buddha himself. On the advice of his own Spiritual Guide he has pioneered the development of modern Buddhism in contemporary society introducing a special presentation of Buddha’s teachings that preserves their origin meaning whilst making them easily accessible and applicable to the modern world.
He shows how Buddha’s teaching can be used by anyone, Buddhist or not to solve their daily problems and eventually attain a deep and lasting happiness and peace.
Geshe-la has dedicated his life to creating all the necessary conditions to support the study and practice of Buddhism in modern Society, writing twenty-two highly acclaimed books, establishing over 1200 meditation centres and groups throughout the world, developing modern study programmes, training qualified teachers; and establishing local, national and international courses, events and festivals.
Through these immeasurably kind actions Geshe-la has laid the foundation for everyone in this troubled world to discover lasting inner peace and happiness.
General Spiritual Director
The elected General Spiritual Director of the New Kadampa Tradition is Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong, an ordained Buddhist Nun who has been a student of Venerable Geshe-Kelsang for over 30 years. She lives at the mother centre of the NKT, Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre in Cumbria. Gen-la Dekyong is recognised as a fully qualified teacher of both Sutra and Tantra. She teaches a number of courses at Manjushri KMC each year, including the International Festivals. She also teaches at Buddhist festivals and celebrations around the world.
Resident Teacher at Tara KMC
The principal teacher at Tara KMC is Paul Jenkins. A dedicated student of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Paul has been studying and teaching Kadampa Buddhism for over 30 years. He is married with 3 children and has practical experience of integrating Modern Buddhism within a busy, professional, family life.
For many years a senior teacher at Manjushri KMC, Paul is well known for the clarity and warmth of his teachings and has deep experience of practicing meditation and teaching Buddhism at all levels. His relaxed and friendly approach helps students to easily take the teachings to heart and put them into practice in daily life. Paul teaches weekly classes, weekend courses, guides a number of retreats throughout the year and grants Empowerments at Tara KMC.
